FEMA will pay for your hotel if you
can’t return home because (1) your neighborhood is
inaccessible, or (2) your home is unlivable due to damage or
lack of power.
You can find a list of participating
hotels online at
www.FEMAEvacHotels.com. FEMA will pay these
participating hotels directly. If you choose to stay in a
hotel that is not on FEMA’s list, keep your receipts and
FEMA will reimburse you up to their authorized amount.
In order to be eligible for this
benefit, you must be registered with FEMA. Register by
calling (800) 621-3362 or online at
www.fema.gov.
This housing aid is not taxable income
to you. There is no reimbursement from FEMA for meals while
in temporary housing. However, if you are reimbursed by
your insurance company, this aid will not be considered
taxable income.
