Briggs & Veselka Co. Proudly Announces Jason Sharp as a New Shareholder
HOUSTON, Texas: October 1, 2014 –Briggs & Veselka Co. recently admitted Jason Sharp as a shareholder to the firm. On October 1st, he was acknowledged with this wonderful achievement. This accomplishment was achieved through his illustrious hard work and dedication to the firm.
Before receiving Jason’s new title as Transaction Advisory Services Partner, he was the Transaction Advisory Services Principal. Throughout his 22-year career, Mr. Sharp has done extensive work across many areas of tax including compliance, structuring, IRS controversy, and mergers and acquisitions. For the past nine years, his focus has been advising clients in all tax related aspects of mergers and acquisitions. He has worked on transactions from $400,000 to $15 billion, and clients ranging from small private closely held businesses to larger public clients.

Jason received a B.B.A in Accounting from the University of Houston (as a member of the Honors Program), a J.D. from South Texas College of Law, and an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Houston Law Center. He is both a licensed CPA and attorney in the state of Texas.
Furthermore, he currently serves on the program committee for the Commercial Finance Association, and is also an advisory board member for The Entrepreneurship Institute.
Briggs & Veselka is also very excited to announce the first promotions of the newly created management position within the firm. As our firm has grown to be one of the top firms in Houston and one of the Top 200 firms nationally, we recognized the need to have a “director” position. A director’s role is uniquely crafted to that individual’s contribution to the firm and carries responsibilities similar to a principal and a shareholder.
We are pleased to announce the following individuals to the position of Director, effective October 1, 2014:
Dan St.Clair has been with the firm for 8 years and has more than 15 years of experience providing audit services to clients in various industries with specialization in financial institutions. Dan has overseen the quality control updates and firm inspection for the audit department for last several years and has participated on several committees within the audit management team.
David Munn had over 28 years of service with the Texas Department of Banking prior to joining B&V as part of the business advisory services team. He has a thorough background in evaluating the condition of financial institutions through assessing capital, asset quality, earnings, liquidity, sensitivity to market risk and all aspects of management.
Marilyn Fowler has been with B&V for 11 years and has more than 25 years of tax experience specializing in the oil & gas exploration and production and financial institutions industries.
Virginia Platts has been with the firm for 13 years and has more than 30 years of tax experience specializing in estate and trust taxation and tax planning and compliance for individuals and partnerships. Virginia is a CPA, JD and LLM.
We are pleased to announce the following individuals to the position of Principal, effective October 1, 2014:
Crystal Gates has more than 15 years of experience focusing primarily on middle market privately held companies providing both domestic and international tax planning, consulting and compliance.
Forest Xu has more than 11 years tax experience which includes compliance and consulting for multi-national, public and privately held clients. His area of expertise with B&V is consulting related to tax provision calculations (ASC 740).
